Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior blasted his team’s defending as ‘unacceptable’ after a late Burnley equaliser cost them two vital points in the top-four race

CHELSEA manager Liam Rosenior slammed his team’s “unacceptable” defending after a stoppage-time equaliser saw them drop two points against Burnley.

The Blues appeared set for a fifth win in six Premier League games under Rosenior after Joao Pedro’s early opener.

They failed to extend their lead, however, and were reduced to 10 men when Wesley Fofana received a second yellow card.

Burnley capitalised on the advantage when Zian Flemming headed in a late corner to snatch a 1-1 draw.

“It is unacceptable for their best header of the ball to be free in the box,” said Rosenior.

The result leaves Chelsea fourth on goal difference alone, just above Manchester United.

Rosenior’s side have now drawn their last two league games after also surrendering a 2-0 lead against Leeds.

“It is too many times,” added the frustrated manager.

“It is not enough clean sheets and not enough basics and values of defending set-pieces. That is something I have to address.”

He directly blamed individual failures for the costly result.

“There were players on the pitch who were assigned to do their job and who didn’t do their job. That is what cost us the two points.”

Chelsea now face a daunting run of fixtures against Arsenal, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Manchester City.
