
A 45-year-old construction worker faces murder charges for the death of his wife’s cousin in Tumpat, with court mention set for January.
TUMPAT: A construction worker was charged in the Magistrate’s Court today in connection with the death of his wife’s cousin last Friday.
Hamizi Hamzah, 45, nodded when the murder charge was read but did not enter a plea as the case falls under High Court jurisdiction.
He faces charges for murdering Mohd Shairi Hasim, 46, at 11.20 pm on October 24 at a house in Kampung Kok Bedollah.
The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries either the death penalty or imprisonment for up to 40 years plus 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nazuha Ismail conducted the prosecution while the accused remained unrepresented during the proceedings.
The court scheduled January 28 next year for the next mention of the murder case.
In the same court session, Hamizi pleaded guilty to self-administering methamphetamine at the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department office last Saturday.
This drug charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carries a maximum fine of RM5,000 or up to two years imprisonment or both.
Magistrate Wan Ashrul Afhan Mohamad Azmi set the same January 28 date for submission of the pathology and chemistry reports related to the drug case. – Bernama
