The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) has launched a three-month campaign to shield vulnerable residents and workers from the region’s escalating heat and haze. From April 6 onwards, about 700 volunteers will hand out specially prepared “heat-and-haze” care packs to beneficiaries in SRC’s community support programmes—particularly seniors living alone and migrant labourers working long outdoor hours.
Each care pack includes a battery-operated portable fan, a protective face mask, an insulated water tumbler and a multilingual information leaflet (offered in English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil). Charis Chan, SRC’s assistant secretary-general of operations, notes that the initial distribution will reach around 75 seniors over 80 years old who are part of the organisation’s Home Monitoring and Eldercare or ElderAid schemes. Later phases will extend support to low-income children and teenagers, people with disabilities and outdoor migrant workers.
Weather forecasts indicate that daytime highs in Singapore could exceed 35°C in early to mid-April, and the anticipated onset of El Niño later this year may bring even hotter, drier conditions. SRC believes these proactive efforts will help at-risk groups remain cool, hydrated and informed during this period of heightened heat and haze.

💡 What This Means for Malaysian Investors
The Malaysian real estate sector is driven by urban demand in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Penang; government programmes like PR1MA; interest rate decisions by Bank Negara Malaysia; and major infrastructure projects such as MRT3 and LRT expansions. Bursa Malaysia–listed REITs also reflect broader economic trends.
🔗 Useful Resources
Investors can consider rental properties, affordable housing initiatives, commercial units and Bursa-listed REITs. With rising urban migration and stronger rental demand, diversifying between direct property investments and REITs helps balance risk while capturing growth opportunities.
