Melaka residents can buy daily necessities at 10-30% below market prices at six FAMA farmers’ markets until March 19, easing Aidilfitri expenses
JASIN: The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) is offering daily necessities at 10% to 30% below market prices in Melaka.
The initiative is part of the state-level Semarak Syawal Programme running at six farmers’ markets until March 19.
State Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Exco Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said the programme provides relief by offering cheaper basic goods.
He said this helps ease expenses ahead of the Aidilfitri celebration.
“For the Semarak Syawal @ Merlimau Farmers’ Market programme today, FAMA is offering chicken at RM5 each with purchases limited to two per customer,” he said.
He added that special prices include fresh meat at RM30 per kg, grade C eggs at RM10 per tray, and Melaka Rice at RM26 per bag.
Dr Muhamad Akmal assured the public that supplies for Aidilfitri preparations are sufficient.
He was speaking after officiating the launch ceremony, which was also attended by Melaka FAMA director Nor Azhar Abdul Hamid.
He said Melaka Rice is available at farmers’ markets statewide, with FAMA as the sole distributor.
Production is around 1,200 bags per month, totalling 3,600 bags for the first quarter of this year.
“The response to Melaka Rice is very encouraging especially towards the last week before Aidilfitri,” he said. Efforts are being intensified to increase production in the future.
