A Kelantan family of nine can now access education and aid after receiving their MyKad and birth certificates, ending years of struggle without identification.
MACHANG: A family of nine has finally received their MyKad and birth certificates after years of living without official identification. The documents grant them access to education, healthcare, and government assistance.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail presented the documents during the Mekar Programme in Kampung Simpul Belubang. The family’s case was resolved through this initiative by the Kelantan National Registration Department (JPN) and the Home Ministry.
Single mother Nor Fauziah Muhamad, 32, said living without identification had previously barred them from aid like Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA). It also prevented her children from enrolling in formal education.
“We’ve always wanted to buy kitchen essentials with SARA aid, but without ID cards, we couldn’t. We could only pray and wait. Now that we have our MyKad, we want to use this opportunity to the fullest,” she said.
Her priority is now to help her children pursue skills training for a more secure future. The family currently lives in Besut, Terengganu, earning a modest income by selling dried fish and crackers.
The family comprises five adult siblings and Nor Fauziah’s four children. She explained that registration difficulties stemmed from her father refusing to acknowledge her at birth.
Her parents’ subsequent passing made repeated registration attempts fail. JPN checks confirmed the family met legal requirements after a referral from the Kaunter Lorong programme.
The children had dropped out of school due to family issues and frequent relocations. Her son, Asyraf Abdullah, 16, said life without an identity card made everything challenging.
“Now that I have my MyKad, I feel happy and more confident to find a job. I also want to help my family by running small businesses,” he said.
