FBI extradites Zobaidul Amin, 28, from Malaysia to Alaska on charges of exploiting hundreds of minors

PETALING JAYA: A Bangladeshi national has been transferred from Malaysia to the United States to face federal charges linked to the alleged sexual exploitation of hundreds of children across multiple countries.

The FBI confirmed that Zobaidul Amin, 28, landed in Alaska on March 4, 2026, after being flown out of Malaysia two days prior.

FBI Director Kash Patel announced the development on social media platform X, sharing photographs that appeared to show three FBI agents escorting the suspect across a runway to a private aircraft.

Patel expressed gratitude toward Malaysian authorities and domestic partners, crediting the FBI’s Anchorage field office for its role in the investigation.

“Thank you to Legat Kuala Lumpur, the Government of Malaysia, and our great local partners all over the country,” he wrote.

Court documents reveal that Amin was first indicted by a federal grand jury in Alaska back in July 2022, facing charges tied to the abuse and exploitation of hundreds of underage victims both within the United States and internationally.

At the time of the charges, Amin was residing in Malaysia and enrolled in a medical school there.

The US Attorney’s Office in Alaska noted that cooperation between the FBI, the US Department of Justice, and Malaysian authorities had been ongoing since September 2022 — the same month Malaysia’s Attorney-General’s Chambers filed 13 separate charges against Amin related to the possession and production of child sexual abuse material.

US Attorney General Pamela Bondi described the extradition as a reflection of the current administration’s intensified focus on pursuing suspects who flee abroad.

She said the case demonstrated what coordinated international law enforcement efforts could achieve against those who exploit children.

Amin was formally charged in Alaska following his arrival.
