JBPM air unit swiftly transports kidney and medical team from Kluang to Subang in critical organ transfer mission

KLUANG: The Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) executed a critical mercy flight to facilitate a kidney transplant.

The air unit operation transported a donated kidney and a medical team from Kluang to Subang following a request from the National Transplant Centre at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Johor JBPM Fire and Rescue Operations assistant director Senior Fire Superintendent I Muhammad Tarmizi Md Jaafar said the mission was categorised as a Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC).

He stated that swift action and close coordination were essential to keep the organ in optimal condition for transplantation.

A Mi-17 helicopter with a nine-member crew was deployed for the transfer.

The aircraft collected the organ retrieval team and medical equipment from SMK Jalan Kota Tinggi in Kluang.

It then flew to Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL-MIAT) in Subang, carrying three medical personnel and approximately 40kg of equipment.

Muhammad Tarmizi emphasised the mission’s urgency, as the organ needed transfer within a short window to preserve its function.

“The close cooperation between the Health Ministry and JBPM clearly reflects the commitment and efficiency of government agencies in saving lives through organ donation efforts,” he said.

The helicopter landed at the school field at noon before departing for its destination.

This successful operation highlights inter-agency collaboration in Malaysia’s life-saving transplant logistics.
