
Veteran diplomat and former high commissioner to the UK, Australia, Singapore and Brunei, Datuk Salim Hashim, has died at the age of 76
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Malaysian High Commissioner Datuk Salim Hashim has passed away at the age of 76.
His nephew, Datuk Dr Hishamshah Mohd Ibrahim, confirmed the news in a Facebook post, stating the veteran diplomat died earlier on Wednesday morning at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Hospital in Serdang.
Salim was laid to rest at the Muslim cemetery in Precinct 20, Putrajaya, following funeral prayers.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wisma Putra, extended its condolences to his family in a social media post.
“Condolences to the family of the late Datuk Haji Salim Haji Hashim from everyone at Wisma Putra,” the ministry said.
Salim began his diplomatic career as an assistant secretary at the Foreign Ministry in 1973.
His distinguished service included postings as High Commissioner to Brunei from 1994 to 1997 and to Singapore from 1997 to 2001.
He later served as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 2001 to 2002 and to Australia from 2005 to 2007.
Born in Segamat, Johor, Salim is remembered for his dedication to Malaysia’s diplomatic service.
