PDRM and Prasarana arrest four suspects behind MRT cable theft that disrupted services for 3 days
PETALING JAYA: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have successfully apprehended four individuals suspected of involvement in the theft of cables along the MRT Putrajaya Line, following a coordinated operation carried out recently.
The arrests were made possible through combined intelligence gathering and surveillance efforts between the Prasarana Malaysia Berhad Auxiliary Police Unit and PDRM officers from the Selangor Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK Selangor).
All four suspects, aged between 30 and 45, were subsequently brought to the scene of the incident for identification purposes and to assist investigators in examining items recovered as part of the case.
The operation was triggered by a police report lodged by Prasarana in connection with a cable theft that occurred near Sri Damansara Barat Station on March 3.
The incident caused significant disruption to MRT Putrajaya Line services for three consecutive days, affecting thousands of daily commuters who rely on Prasarana’s public transport network.
In a statement, today, Prasarana Group president and chief executive officer Amir Hamdan said the close collaboration between the Prasarana Auxiliary Police Unit and PDRM would continue to be strengthened through ongoing monitoring, surveillance, and intelligence sharing, with the aim of eradicating cable theft along the rail network entirely.
He also commended the Selangor police contigent team for their swift and professional response in apprehending the suspects and expediting the investigation process.
Prasarana added that it would continue reinforcing security measures across the entire MRT Putrajaya Line corridor, including intensifying security patrols, surveillance operations, and strategic cooperation with law enforcement agencies to safeguard public transport infrastructure.
Members of the public with information on any suspicious activity that could threaten the safety of the nation’s public transport facilities are urged to come forward and report it to the relevant authorities.
