A four-year-old boy was found dead after a fire broke out at a PPR Kampung Muhibbah flat in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday afternoon.

KUALA LUMPUR: A four-year-old boy was found charred to death in a room after a fire broke out at a unit in the People’s Housing Project (PPR) Kampung Muhibbah here on Sunday afternoon.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Control Centre stated that teams from the Bukit Jalil and Sri Petaling stations were dispatched immediately after receiving an emergency call at 2.59 pm.

Senior Operations Commander Mohd Azizi Abdullah confirmed that firefighters arriving at the scene found a fire involving a house on the building’s 10th floor, which they tackled using an initial attack hose line from within the building.

Firefighters discovered the charred body of the young boy in one of the rooms, and he is believed to have died at the scene before his remains were handed over to the police for further action.

The department’s statement noted that the victim had been living at the address with his mother, whose status and whether she managed to escape the blaze remains unconfirmed and under investigation.

The fire was fully brought under control by 3.17 pm, having destroyed an estimated 80% of the 20-by-40 square foot area involved in the blaze.

A total of 13 firefighters using two Fire Rescue Tender vehicles and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicle were involved in the operation, with the cause of the fire still under investigation.
