Bersatu lodged police and MCMC reports after its Facebook page was hacked, hours after Hamzah Zainudin’s dismissal.

PETALING JAYA: If Bersatu thought matters could not get any worse after the dismissal of its deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, it was in for another shock — hackers had taken over the party’s Facebook page and wasted no time causing chaos.

Following the incident, party information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said Bersatu had rushed to lodge reports with the police, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Meta.

He said several administrators were removed after the page was hijacked, and a series of posts attacking the party and its leadership were published.

“The content uploaded was unauthorised, does not represent the party’s position, and was posted without the consent of the leadership,” Tun Faisal said in a Facebook post today.

Tun Faisal added that the party had traced the breach to one of its own page administrators, allegedly linked to a leader who had been dismissed the day before.

He stressed that the party was treating the incident seriously, noting that it involved unauthorised digital access and the misuse of an official platform to mislead both party members and the public.

“Bersatu has filed reports with Meta to regain control of the page, lodged a complaint with MCMC, and made a police report to initiate a criminal investigation,” he said.
“The actions may violate the Computer Crimes Act, the Communications and Multimedia Act, as well as sections of the Penal Code relating to fraud and defamation.”

Tun Faisal advised the public to ignore any suspicious posts and to rely only on official statements issued through verified party channels.

Earlier, the hackers appeared to mock the party on its own page, including a cheeky jab: “How can Bersatu leaders be Prime Minister when they can’t even manage their Facebook page?”

The breach, believed to have occurred at around 5pm on Friday, came just hours after Hamzah’s removal following a disciplinary board hearing.

As of press time, the posts remained live.
