GEORGE TOWN: Several roads in the city centre will be closed in phases for the Chinese New Year “Miaohui” celebration. The event is organised by the Penang Chinese Clan Council and the Penang Cultural Inheritors Society.
The first phase of closures began at 11.59 pm on Tuesday. The Lebuh King area, between Lebuh Bishop and Lebuh Light, is closed until 6.59 pm on February 20 for stage construction.
A second, more extensive phase of closures will begin at 7 pm on February 20. This will affect multiple roads including Lebuh Light, Lebuh Pasar, Lebuh Chulia, and Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling.
These closures will last until 1.59 pm on Saturday, February 21. The Penang City Council (MBPP) announced the details on its official Facebook page.
A third phase will close sections of Lebuh Chulia and Gat Lebuh Chulia from 2 pm until 11.59 pm on February 21. Authorities are advising road users to plan their journeys carefully.
The public is encouraged to use public transport to attend the event. This will help reduce traffic congestion in the affected areas around the city.
