Malaysia’s government refutes Bloomberg’s claim of PM Anwar interfering in the MACC chief’s shareholding investigation, stating disciplinary proceedings are underway.

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has issued a strong denial of a Bloomberg report alleging Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim instructed a special committee to delay disclosing findings from an investigation into Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki’s shareholdings.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar clarified that following the tabling of the Special Investigation Committee’s findings at a Cabinet meeting on March 11, proceedings under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993 have commenced.

He stated that these proceedings are subject to established processes and procedures, with any further developments to be announced in due course.

Shamsul Azri added that the Attorney General’s Chambers will take further action against Bloomberg over the allegation.

The foreign news agency had reported yesterday that there was interference in the timeline for disclosing the investigation into Azam Baki’s shareholding.
