PUTRAJAYA: The safety and welfare of all Malaysians in the Middle East is the government’s current priority. This follows regional turmoil after military actions involving Iran, Israel and the United States.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil (pic) stated the Foreign Ministry will issue statements on necessary actions in response to developments in Iran. He confirmed Wisma Putra had briefed the Cabinet with the latest information and feedback regarding Malaysians in the region.
“The government’s priority now is to ensure that the safety of Malaysians is assured at all times,” Fahmi said at a post-Cabinet meeting press conference. He highlighted concerns for those stranded due to flight unavailability and residents in affected countries.
The situation escalated after joint Israeli and US air strikes on targets in Iran in the early hours of Feb 28. Tehran responded by targeting US military bases and logistics facilities in several Arab nations.
This retaliation has resulted in widespread airspace restrictions across the region. The government continues to monitor the situation closely through its diplomatic channels.
