A brilliant late equaliser from Brajan Gruda salvaged a point for RB Leipzig in a thrilling 2-2 Bundesliga draw against Wolfsburg at the Red Bull Arena
BRAJAN Gruda’s superb 89th-minute strike earned RB Leipzig a dramatic 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg on Sunday. The Brighton loanee curled a fine effort into the top corner to snatch a point after the hosts had twice fallen behind.
Mohamed Amoura and Mattias Svanberg scored for Wolfsburg, with Yan Diomande netting Leipzig’s first equaliser. The result leaves Leipzig two points behind fourth-placed Stuttgart and one ahead of Bayer Leverkusen, who have a game in hand.
Gruda, making just his third appearance for Leipzig, was instrumental in both goals. He provided the assist for Diomande’s 70th-minute leveller before scoring the late winner himself.
“We conceded unnecessary goals. This is a bitter result for us,” Gruda told broadcaster DAZN after the match.
Leipzig dominated the first half after their midweek German Cup elimination by Bayern Munich. Kamil Grabara made several spectacular saves to deny Diomande, Gruda and Konrad Harder.
Amoura stunned the hosts just after half-time with a powerful long-range strike from the edge of the box. Grabara then gifted Leipzig a route back into the game, passing directly to Gruda who set up Diomande to slam home.
Wolfsburg retook the lead eight minutes later through Svanberg, who finished after being played in by Jeanuel Belocian. Gruda had the final say, however, pouncing on a loose ball in the box before curling his excellent equaliser.
In Sunday’s other Bundesliga fixture, a late Alexis Claude Maurice penalty gave Augsburg a 1-0 home win over bottom club Heidenheim. The victory lifts Augsburg six points clear of the relegation zone.
