KUALA LUMPUR: The Opposition bloc today confirmed that Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin remains as Opposition Leader despite his sacking from Bersatu.
Opposition chief whip Takiyuddin Hasan said there have been no changes to Hamzah’s role and, as such, no notification would be sent to the office of the Dewan Rakyat Speaker regarding the matter.
“So far his position (as Opposition Leader) remains… so there are no changes. We only have two days left of this (Dewan Rakyat) sitting. We don’t think we are going to make any changes for now,” he told a press conference at Parliament.
Hamzah’s status as Opposition Leader had come into question following his dismissal from Bersatu amid an internal party conflict.
Besides Hamzah, three other Bersatu MPs were also sacked, namely Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (Machang), Azahari Hasan (Padang Rengas) and Fathul Huzir Ayob (Gerik).
On Tuesday, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul said any decision regarding Hamzah’s role and position could only be made after receiving written confirmation from the opposition.
