A viral letter claiming opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin sought to rejoin Umno is fabricated, confirmed by his office and dismissed as a ‘black ops’ document.
PETALING JAYA: A letter circulating on social media today purportedly showing Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin applying to rejoin Umno has been confirmed to be fake.
An officer to the Larut MP verified the matter to the media, dismissing the document as fabricated.
When contacted, the officer shared a Facebook posting by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), a page believed to be aligned with Hamzah, which refuted the claim.
The posting included the allegedly original letter said to have been addressed to Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, bearing the label “Black Ops Team Muhyiddin” emblazoned across it.

The viral letter claimed that Hamzah welcomed the “Rumah Bangsa” agenda announced by Zahid during Umno’s General Assembly in January.
It further stated that he sought a role in advancing Umno’s political vision as a “Rumah Bangsa” for the Malay community, an initiative championed by Zahid.
However, the document lacked both an official letterhead and Hamzah’s signature, raising questions over its authenticity.
Hamzah, prior to joining Bersatu, was among a group of Umno lawmakers who declared a loss of confidence in Zahid’s leadership and left the party on 14 Dec, 2018.
He later joined Bersatu and rose through its ranks, eventually being appointed deputy president.
However, he and 17 other party leaders were expelled following months of internal power struggle with party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
