Actress Rita Rudaini must file her defence by April 6 in a defamation case brought by two MRSM Sungai Besar academics over social media posts.
KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has ordered actress Rita Rudaini to file her statement of defence in a defamation lawsuit initiated by two academics from Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM) Sungai Besar.
Judicial Commissioner Nixon Kennedy Kumbong directed the defendant to submit her defence on or before April 6 during a case management session.
The plaintiffs are Prof Dr Mohd Roslan Mohd Nor and Dr Saidah Haris @ Harith, who serve as president and vice-president of the Badan Pemuafakatan Pendidikan Mara Malaysia (Muafakat) at MRSM Sungai Besar in Sabak Bernam, Selangor.
They filed the suit on Dec 6, 2025, alleging Rita Rudaini posted several defamatory statements about them on her Instagram and WhatsApp status features.
The plaintiffs claim the statements, which included remarks related to the “prof kangkung” issue involving the Muafakat leaders, were false and published with malicious intent to tarnish their reputations.
They further allege the statements were made recklessly without strong evidence and have caused serious damage to their standing.
Lawyer Datuk Adnan Seman, representing the two academics, confirmed the court has fixed April 13 for the next case management to update the status of the defence filing.
Rita Rudaini’s lawyer, Mohd Syakirin Syazwan Mohd Nayan, stated that the defence had already filed a memorandum of appearance on March 9.
