Iran’s Revolutionary Guards escalate missile attacks on US and Israeli targets, citing retaliation for airstrikes as nuclear talks loom.

TEHRAN: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has launched the third and fourth waves of its ‘Operation True Promise 4’. The escalation is a direct response to what it calls US-Israeli aggression against Iran on Saturday.

The IRGC stated the operation is continuously targeting extensive US and “Zionist regime” military and security targets. It is using more advanced missiles than in a previous operation, promising more precise and devastating strikes.

The corps’ forces are prepared to target fixed and mobile enemy positions with Iranian missiles and drones. This announcement came in a statement released early on Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday, the IRGC announced an American ship named MST was severely struck by the Iranian Navy’s missiles. The latest waves of strikes follow major US and Israeli airstrikes on cities across 24 Iranian provinces.

Those airstrikes occurred just two days before planned talks in Vienna over Iran’s nuclear programme. The Monday talks were intended as a fourth round of negotiations between Iranian and US representatives.

A third round took place on Thursday in Geneva, where mediators cited progress. Iran’s Minister Abbas Araghchi and Omani counterpart Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi attended those talks.
