Iran’s top diplomat expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its solidarity against US and Israeli aggression as a Pakistani oil tanker safely transited the Strait of Hormuz.
KARACHI: Iran’s top diplomat publicly thanked Pakistan for its solidarity and support against what he termed aggression by the United States and Israel.
Abbas Araghchi expressed his “heartfelt gratitude” to the government and people of Pakistan in a post on social media platform X.
He stated that Iran stands steadfast in defence of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The message coincided with the reported safe passage of a Pakistani-flagged oil tanker through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
The tanker named Karachi, laden with crude oil, cleared the strait and was sailing towards Pakistan according to ship-tracking data cited by Bloomberg.
It had made the journey over the preceding day and was seen in waters off Oman’s Sohar by Monday morning.
Tehran has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial international oil shipping route, since early March.
This action followed joint attacks by Israel and the US on Iran which reportedly killed around 1,300 people including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
