Sanae Takaichi formally reappointed as Japan’s prime minister following her party’s historic election victory earlier this month.
TOKYO: Japan’s lower house has formally reappointed Sanae Takaichi as prime minister.
The reappointment comes 10 days after her historic landslide election victory on February 8.
Takaichi, 64, became Japan’s first woman premier in October. Her party secured a two-thirds majority in the snap lower house elections.
She has stated her intention to bolster Japan’s military, a move likely to further strain relations with China.
The prime minister is also under pressure to boost the country’s weak economy.
