WILMINGTON: The ex-husband of former first lady Jill Biden has been charged with murder in the death of his current wife.
William Stevenson, 77, was arrested on Monday in connection with the December 28 death of 64-year-old Linda Stevenson at their home.
New Castle County Police in Delaware confirmed he faces a first-degree murder charge.
Stevenson remains in jail after failing to post $500,000 cash bail.
Police had responded to a report of a domestic dispute at the Wilmington home shortly after 11 pm on December 28.
They found Linda Stevenson unresponsive in the living room.
Life-saving measures were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead.
Authorities have not disclosed how Linda Stevenson died or provided further investigation details.
Stevenson was married to Jill Biden from 1970 until their divorce in 1975.
Jill Biden married former president Joe Biden in 1977.
Linda Stevenson’s obituary described her as deeply family-oriented.
It said she treasured time spent making memories on family vacations with her daughter and granddaughter.
She was a Philadelphia Eagles fan and recently ran a bookkeeping business.
“Linda will be remembered as tenacious, kind-hearted, and fiercely loyal,” the obituary stated.
Her strength, resilience, and unwavering love for her family and friends will never be forgotten.
