JOHOR BAHRU: Police have arrested a headmaster to assist in an investigation into an alleged assault on a Year One pupil. The incident reportedly occurred at a school canteen last Tuesday.
Johor Bahru Utara Police Chief ACP Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said a report was lodged by the seven-year-old victim’s father. The 48-year-old suspect was arrested on the same day at the district police headquarters.
“Acting on information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Department arrested the man at 4.55 pm to facilitate investigations,” Radin Ramlan said in a statement. Initial checks revealed the suspect has no prior criminal record.
A urine screening test conducted on the suspect also returned a negative result. The man was produced in a Magistrate’s Court and remanded for three days before being released on police bail.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. The alleged incident had earlier gained attention after a post about it went viral on social media.
