Johor is optimising eGate systems and border operations to manage the festive travel surge, with all counters open and a dedicated operation running until March 28.
MUAR: The Johor government is ensuring all electronic gate (eGate) systems at border crossings operate optimally for the Aidilfitri festive season.
State Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communications Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said facilities at the Sultan Iskandar Building and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex CIQs will be maintained to avoid disruptions.
He noted the eGate system’s increasing efficiency is expected to handle the anticipated rise in travellers.
“For this Hari Raya, we will also ensure optimal border control to manage congestion,” he told reporters after opening the Johor Kasih Sale Programme.
He said almost all counters will be opened as part of the Op Raya agenda at both complexes.
The operation runs from March 14 to 28 with personnel from border control, immigration and customs agencies.
Mohamad Fazli said the state will also monitor traffic congestion hotspots across Johor.
Meetings have been held regarding potential congestion during Hari Raya at the border and statewide.
Meanwhile, he said the Johor Kasih Sale Programme with FAMA is targeting about 5,000 visitors.
He encouraged the public to take advantage of goods offered at lower prices.
The state government has allocated RM15.4 million for the programme for the first six months of this year.
