JOHOR BAHRU: Police have dismantled a methamphetamine distribution syndicate following a raid on a house in Taman Mount Austin.
The operation on March 14 led to the arrest of a 36-year-old man and the seizure of 20.2 kilogrammes of syabu with an estimated street value of RM1.01 million.
Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the drugs were discovered in 21 packages inside a Perodua Alza parked at the residence.
He stated the amount seized could potentially supply 101,140 users.
Initial investigations indicate the suspect acted as a distributor within the Johor Bahru area.
The syndicate is believed to have been active since December last year.
Ab Rahaman explained the vehicle was used as a temporary storage point before local distribution.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
This section carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment and a minimum of 12 lashes upon conviction.
An initial urine test on the suspect returned negative for drugs.
He has been remanded for five days from March 15 to assist further investigations.
Checks revealed the suspect has seven prior criminal records.
These include offences related to murder, drug distribution, rioting, sabotage, and explosives and weapons.
The public is urged to report drug-related activities to the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department at 012-208 7222.
