JPJ Terengganu forms five undercover teams to monitor express bus drivers during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri travel period, also detaining 22 motorcyclists

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Road Transport Department has formed five undercover teams involving 10 officers disguised as passengers to detect express bus driver offences.

The operation is part of the Special Hari Raya Aidilfitri (HRA) 2026 Ops running from 16 to 29 March.

State JPJ director Mohd Zamri Samion said the tactic of placing officers on buses aims to ensure all drivers are vigilant when transporting passengers.

A total of 44 undercover operations will be conducted on routes including Kuala Terengganu-Pahang, Kuala Terengganu-Kelantan, and Kuala Terengganu-Kuala Lumpur.

“We will also implement an intensive strategy by placing banners at several locations,” he said.

This is to ensure both drivers and passengers are aware they can be caught for offences like not wearing seatbelts.

Regarding bus safety, inspections will be conducted at depots to ensure vehicles are in good condition and comply with regulations.

Separately, Mohd Zamri said 22 motorcyclists, including a 17-year-old girl, were detained in a simultaneous Ops Motosikal (Rempit).

All motorcycles were seized for various offences, including extreme modifications and expired road tax.

“Some motorcycles had their rear brakes removed to increase speed, along with modifications to the model and engine block,” he stated.

He warned that modified vehicles increase the risk of death in an accident.

Therefore, JPJ Terengganu is intensifying its special motorcycle operations to ensure safety and legal compliance.

From 1 January to 11 March, the department seized 149 motorcycles and issued 5,606 summonses for various offences under the special motorcycle ops.
