JPJ will use drones to monitor traffic and issue summonses in Kelantan during Ops Aidilfitri, while also launching an app for online vehicle auctions
MACHANG: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will deploy high-specification drones to monitor road users in Kelantan during this year’s Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the drones can record and store videos and images from long distances to identify traffic offenders.
He stated that JPJ personnel are trained and licensed to operate the drones, with the initiative starting in Kelantan before expanding to other states.
“We will begin using these drones starting March 13 to monitor the public’s journey back to their hometowns,” he said.
He added that motorists who commit offences can be penalised via Notice 114.
Aedy Fadly explained this method is used as amendments to the electronic summons bill are not yet finalised.
Offenders will be issued Notice 114 to attend an interview where evidence from drone recordings will be shown.
“If they fail to show up, then we issue a summons,” he said.
He was speaking after launching the JPJvBID App and a Sahur Stop programme at the Labok Enforcement Station.
Meanwhile, JPJ also launched the JPJvBID app for the online management of public auctions of seized vehicles.
This is a strategic move to enhance transparency, efficiency, and integrity in vehicle disposal management.
JPJ Selangor will conduct a pilot auction featuring 30 vehicles, including motorcycles, cars, and scrap.
Physical vehicle inspections will no longer be permitted for this process.
Bidders must base their bids solely on images provided in the app.
The JPJvBID app will be available for download from March 10 via major app stores.
It requires an existing MyJPJ ID or a new registration on the JPJ portal.
Bidding e-catalogues can be purchased from March 18 at RM50 per series.
The first auction session is scheduled for April 1 to 5.
Aedy Fadly expressed confidence the initiative will strengthen integrity in seized vehicle management.
He also believes it will improve service delivery efficiency for the department.
