The Kemubu Agricultural Development Authority expects 95% of its paddy granary area to receive sufficient water next season, boosted by the new Kemubu 4 project.

KOTA BHARU: The Kemubu Agricultural Development Authority (KADA) expects 95% of its paddy granary area to receive adequate water supply for the next planting season.

This covers approximately 26,833 hectares under KADA’s supervision.

Chairman Khalid Abdul Samad (pic) attributed the improved outlook to the full operation of the Kemubu 4 project since last month.

He said the project will fully benefit the 1/2026 paddy planting season starting mid-year.

“The water supply from Kemubu 4, which began operating fully in February, was supplied a little for the 2/2025 season, with a coverage rate of 93%,” he told reporters.

“However, this project will fully benefit the 1/2026 paddy planting season, which will begin in the middle of this year, thus solving the water problem during the dry season.”

Khalid said the project is equipped with eight pumps with a water flow rate of 700 cubic meters per second.

He stated it will boost long-term yields to around six tonnes per hectare.

This compares to around four tonnes per hectare previously harvested.
