Elderly neighbour holds umbrella for courier in heavy rain, touching hearts on the first day of Chinese New Year
WHEN people stop thinking, “It is not my problem,” and instead put humanity first, life becomes a little easier for everyone.
That was the message many took from a heartwarming moment shared by Nurul Najwa, the wife of a courier, who posted a video clip on Threads after accompanying her husband on parcel deliveries on the first day of Chinese New Year.
Amid heavy rain, her husband stepped out to deliver a parcel without opening his umbrella, as the recipient’s house had an awning that offered some shelter.
However, an elderly Chinese woman from the neighbouring house noticed him getting soaked.
Without hesitation, she walked over with an umbrella and held it over him while he completed the delivery.
She then accompanied him back to his car, ensuring he did not get drenched.
“Thank you, auntie, for holding an umbrella over my husband. He was the only one who got down to drop off the parcel and didn’t bother opening his umbrella because the customer’s house had an awning. Suddenly, an auntie from the house next door came over to hold an umbrella for him — ahhh, so touched. By the way, Gong Xi Fa Cai, auntie!” Najwa wrote.
The touching gesture quickly resonated with netizens, many of whom praised the elderly woman’s kindness and wished her a Happy Chinese New Year.
One commenter, Farrah Asyeken, shared that the woman is also her neighbour. “It’s the auntie who lives in the yellow house. She’s really, really kind,” she wrote.
