Deputy minister M. Kulasegaran denies attending activist Arun Dorasamy’s court proceedings, meeting him only briefly outside, as PKR demands an explanation.

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department M. Kulasegaran has clarified that he was not present in the courtroom for activist Arun Dorasamy’s legal proceedings.

Kulasegaran stated he had only briefly met Arun outside the Jawi Magistrate’s Court complex while returning from Penang, to offer encouragement and advise trust in the legal process.

The Ipoh Barat MP explained he has known Arun since representing Indira Gandhi in her past legal challenge concerning her children.

He emphasised he was not inside the courtroom when charges were read and the proceedings were held.

Earlier, PKR’s Religious Understanding and Empowerment Bureau had demanded an explanation from Kulasegaran over his presence with Arun at the court.

Bureau chairman Amidi Abdul Manan said the deputy minister’s presence, even in a personal capacity, invites various interpretations and could affect public perception of the government.
