DAP’s Anthony Loke says voters can assess the situation for themselves amid claims of a PN-Umno political manoeuvre in Negeri Sembilan.
KUALA LUMPUR: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has left it to the public to decide how they view allegations of a political manoeuvre involving Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Umno in Negeri Sembilan, saying voters are capable of making their own judgment.
Speaking after launching the Cermat Madani programme today, Loke said he did not intend to be drawn into the controversy and preferred to allow the electorate to assess the situation for themselves.
“Let the people make the assessment and decide. The people have eyes to see what is happening and I leave it to them to judge.
“The state assembly has already been dissolved and we will go into the election and contest in the election,” he told reporters.
Loke declined to elaborate further on developments surrounding the allegations, including claims linked to Bersatu and purported discussions involving Pas and other parties.
Asked whether he was disappointed by the alleged revelations, he said political leaders should remain optimistic.
“In politics, we must have hope. We cannot be disappointed. We must have hope,” he said.
When questioned on whether tensions between PAS and Bersatu had any connection with Pakatan Harapan, Loke dismissed the suggestion.
“That is their problem,” he said.
Earlier, a 13-page letter purportedly from Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to Pas leaders alleged that PN had held preliminary discussions with Umno on efforts to unseat Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
The letter, dated May 25, claimed that a series of meetings involving Pas, Bersatu and Umno took place before 14 Umno-Barisan Nasional assemblymen withdrew their support for Aminuddin’s administration.
It also alleged that Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, several Pas assemblymen and Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Azmin Ali attended a meeting at Bersatu headquarters on April 24, during which a statutory declaration was signed, followed by further discussions with Umno representatives later that evening.
On April 27, Umno Negeri Sembilan announced that 14 of its assemblymen had withdrawn support for Aminuddin, citing a loss of confidence arising from a dispute involving four traditional chiefs.
