PSG’s Luis Enrique brushes off talk of internal issues as the European champions face a crucial Champions League playoff against domestic rivals Monaco.

PARIS Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique dismissed talk of dressing room unrest ahead of a crucial Champions League playoff first leg against Monaco.

He described the constant speculation as “noise” that his team must simply accept.

The reigning European champions arrive in poor form, having been knocked off the top of Ligue 1 after a 3-1 defeat to Rennes. They also finished 11th in their Champions League group, forcing this playoff for a last-16 spot.

Star forward Ousmane Dembele criticised the team’s collective spirit after the weekend loss. “We need to play for Paris Saint-Germain if we are going to win matches,” he said in a TV interview.

Luis Enrique acknowledged the defeat was “cruel” but insisted the squad is now fully focused on Europe. “It is time for the Champions League and we are all motivated,” he said.

PSG are strong favourites against an eighth-placed Monaco side 20 points behind them in the league. However, Monaco won the teams’ last meeting 1-0 in November.

Monaco coach Sebastien Pocognoli stressed belief is essential. “We need to believe we can get a result, otherwise there is no point playing the game,” he said.

Captain Denis Zakaria warned his side must be perfect. “If we are not at 100 percent and don’t play the perfect game, it will be difficult for us,” he added.
