Malaysian graft busters confirm a report alleging misappropriation of a RM1.11 billion investment linked to a former senior minister is under review.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is examining a report alleging the misappropriation of a RM1.11 billion investment linked to a former senior minister.

The report was submitted by a coalition of non-governmental organisations earlier today.

Sources indicate the complainants suspect the former minister and officials from a specific ministry were involved.

The allegations also raise doubts about the negotiation and approval processes for the investment.

It is claimed these processes did not fully involve key ministries like Finance and Investment, Trade, and Industry.

The report further highlights several issues that could create a perception of conflict of interest.

MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the report’s receipt.

He stated the commission will scrutinise it to identify any elements of corruption, misappropriation, or abuse of power under the MACC Act 2009.

Follow-up actions will include examining all submitted documents and evidence before any formal investigation proceeds.

This process aligns with the commission’s stated commitment to integrity and transparency.
