The Malaysia Council of Hindu Temples and Hindu Associations supports the Prime Minister’s directive, urging temple committees to legalise their status through proper documentation.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Council of Hindu Temples and Hindu Associations (Mahima) has expressed support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s recent directive on places of worship.

Mahima president Datuk N. Sivakumar said the statement should be viewed as a necessary step to safeguard existing temples nationwide.

He stressed that many temples, particularly those in estates, were built during the British colonial period.

“Proper documentation must now be compiled to protect their original land rights,” Sivakumar told Bernama TV.

He urged temple committees to prepare complete documents and submit them to the authorities for legalisation.

“This effort will help ensure temples are properly structured and protected,” he added.

Sivakumar said the government’s move would facilitate comprehensive national records on places of worship.

He proposed forming a special task force under the MADANI government to better manage related issues.

Mahima is prepared to assist temple administrations that have received relocation notices.

“We are ready to work with the authorities and affected temple committees,” Sivakumar said.

He emphasised the council would provide guidance on land and legal matters for fair solutions.

Anwar yesterday said no party has the right to act outside the legal framework on houses of worship.

He stated Malaysia is founded on the rule of law, which all parties must respect.

Compliance with regulations is essential to maintain national harmony and stability, the Prime Minister added.
