A new poll shows most Americans oppose current strikes on Iran, with many criticising the lack of a clear explanation from the Trump administration.

ANKARA: A new national poll in the United States reveals that more than half of Americans oppose the current military action against Iran.

According to the Quinnipiac University nationwide poll, 53% oppose the ongoing strikes while 40% support them, with the political divide stark as 89% of Democrats are opposed and 85% of Republicans are in support.

The poll further found that 62% of Americans believe President Donald Trump’s administration has not provided a clear explanation for the attack on Iran.

A significant 74% of voters oppose sending US ground troops into Iran, with only 20% supporting the idea, and most voters expect the conflict to last months or longer rather than ending quickly.

Public approval for key officials is low, with Trump’s foreign policy receiving 40% approval and 57% disapproval, Secretary of State Marco Rubio at 40% approval and 47% disapproval, and Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth at 37% approval and 52% disapproval.

Voters are split on the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during the joint Israeli-US attack, with 48% believing it was justified and 43% disagreeing.

The poll was conducted from March 6 to 8 among 1,002 self-identified registered voters in the United States.
