Deputy PM Ahmad Zahid says meeting aimed to share facts on government policies and address concerns over Islam and Bumiputera interests.

KUALA LUMPUR: A meeting of Malay and Islamic-based political parties served as a platform to strengthen the government’s national agenda.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the gathering aimed to brief leaders on policies implemented over the past three years.

“We do not want any perception that Malays are under threat or that Islam is in danger,” he told reporters.

He added that these are shared concerns that require constructive discussion based on accurate facts.

The meeting was also a step towards building mutual understanding with parties outside the government.

It ensured all parties had correct information to discuss issues constructively, rather than through attacks based on misunderstandings.

Eight parties gathered for the Musyawarah on Islamic and Bumiputera Issues yesterday.

The meeting was held at the UMNO headquarters at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.

The involved parties were UMNO, PAS, PKR, Amanah, and Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah.
