KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign Ministry is maintaining its travel advisory for several Middle Eastern nations while closely monitoring regional developments and coordinating with its diplomatic missions.
The ministry strongly advises Malaysians to defer all non-essential travel to Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, with the advisory remaining in force until further notice.
In the UAE, flight operations continue on a limited basis and remain subject to operational adjustments, with local authorities guiding hotels to assist guests affected by disruptions.
The Malaysian Embassy and Consulate are informing citizens of this guidance and assisting with hotel liaisons where necessary, with all Malaysians who have contacted the missions reported safe.
In Saudi Arabia, the ministry’s focus remains on Malaysian Umrah pilgrims affected by commercial flight disruptions, with the Consulate General in Jeddah operating a 24-hour Operations Room.
The Consulate continues to coordinate with relevant stakeholders to safeguard pilgrim welfare while engaging with airlines, and all Malaysians in contact are reported safe.
The ministry is also closely monitoring the situation involving Malaysians in Lebanon, Qatar, Iraq, Jordan and Syria, where recent incidents have prompted precautionary measures in Qatar.
In Lebanon, all Malaysians registered with the mission are reported safe, including members of the Malaysian Armed Forces serving with the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission.
Across Iraq, Jordan and Syria, missions remain in contact with Malaysians to provide necessary consular guidance, with all those in communication reported safe.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated in Parliament that the ministry continues to monitor developments closely and maintains preparedness measures as part of prudent contingency planning.
Any future decisions will be guided by ongoing security assessments conducted on a country-by-country basis, according to the ministry’s statement.
Wisma Putra is currently updating its records of Malaysians in the affected region, estimated at approximately 29,000 individuals.
