Deputy minister Adam Adli says evacuation plan is prepared for over 1,900 Malaysian students in West Asia amid regional uncertainty

MELAKA: The government is prepared to activate an evacuation plan for Malaysian students in West Asia if the regional situation deteriorates.

Deputy Higher Education Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim confirmed the plan is ready and can be implemented at any time based on developments.

The Higher Education Ministry and Wisma Putra are closely monitoring the situation in affected countries to ensure the safety of all Malaysians.

“Malaysian students in the affected countries have been identified and contacted through Malaysia’s representatives abroad,” he said.

He advised parents seeking updates on their children to contact Wisma Putra directly.

The ministry has identified approximately 1,762 Malaysian students in Jordan, followed by 135 in Saudi Arabia and 21 in the United Arab Emirates.

There are also nine students in Kuwait, six in Iran and three in Qatar.

Adam Adli advised new students with offers from West Asian universities to postpone their travel for now.

He cited ongoing regional uncertainty and recent flight disruptions as key reasons for the delay.

“The safest step for now is to postpone travel temporarily and remain in contact with their respective universities and MOHE,” he said.

Students should seek the latest updates directly from their institutions and the ministry.
