Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan underscores Malaysia’s steady, pragmatic foreign policy and launches new strategic plan for structured global engagement.

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has reaffirmed its commitment to steady and constructive global diplomacy. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan emphasised the nation’s balanced and pragmatic approach to international relations.

He stated that Malaysia values the friendships it has built and will continue to nurture them with mutual respect. “Malaysia remains committed to constructive engagement and mutually respectful cooperation with all partners,” Mohamad said.

He made these remarks at the Foreign Ministry’s breaking of fast programme with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The event was also attended by Anwar’s wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and members of the diplomatic corps.

Mohamad highlighted that foreign policy requires steadiness, often operating away from public view. He noted the demanding global environment where issues are interconnected and the margin for misunderstanding is small.

“In such an environment, steadiness is the number one priority,” he stressed. As an open and trade-dependent nation, Malaysia will ensure its diplomacy is structured and well-coordinated.

He said this structured approach must be supported by capable institutions and clear processes. These pillars ensure stability for trade, travel, security, and confident future planning for nations.

Earlier, Prime Minister Anwar launched the Foreign Ministry Strategic Plan 2026-2030. This five-year plan serves as the guiding framework for Malaysia’s international engagement.

Mohamad explained that the plan translates national policies into a clear programme of work for the ministry. “The plan reinforces our commitment to advancing Malaysia’s economic priorities, deepening bilateral partnerships, and sustaining multilateral engagement,” he said.
