Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim calls for real pressure to ensure access to the holy site as Muslims prepare for Aidilfitri celebrations.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has called for the immediate reopening of the gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, urging governments with genuine influence to apply real pressure to ensure access to the holy site.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that Israeli occupation forces have kept the mosque’s gates closed, denying worshippers their right to pray at Islam’s third holiest site during the final days of Ramadan and the upcoming Aidilfitri.

“Israel’s actions have no legitimate basis in law, in morality or in any sincere conception of human dignity,” he posted on Facebook.

Anwar emphasised that the continued closure of Al-Aqsa is indefensible and a clear violation of international law, reflecting a level of impunity that has only grown with time.

He also conveyed Malaysia’s solidarity with Palestinian Muslims who are observing Aidilfitri under the current difficult conditions.

“To Palestinian Muslims marking Eid under these conditions: your faith, your patience and your perseverance are seen,” Anwar said.

The Prime Minister assured that Palestinian Muslims do not stand alone, adding that Malaysians will continue to speak where they must and act where they can.
