The Malaysian Armed Forces is deploying assets and resources to all border areas to combat fuel subsidy misuse, using drones and inter-agency cooperation.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Armed Forces is strengthening operational readiness by deploying assets and resources comprehensively across all national border areas.

This deployment aims to combat the diversion and leakage of subsidised fuel.

In a Facebook post, the MAF said the integrated approach and stricter enforcement were implemented following a government directive emphasising no compromise on any form of abuse.

To enhance operational effectiveness, the MAF will expand the use of modern surveillance technology, including drones, for continuous monitoring in high-risk areas.

This capability enables early detection of suspicious activities, particularly at night and in identified smuggling hotspots.

The MAF also strengthens strategic cooperation with various enforcement agencies through real-time information sharing and integrated operations.

These operations include intensified dynamic patrols in border areas and at fuel distribution points.

The cooperation involves the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency, and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.

It also includes the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and other security agencies.

Intelligence aspects are being enhanced through more aggressive field information gathering with the cooperation of local communities and neighbouring country authorities.

These efforts include identifying and curbing the main masterminds of smuggling syndicates.

The post emphasised that the MAF does not compromise on any form of smuggling and exploitation of subsidised fuel.

It is also committed to ensuring the security of the country’s borders is continuously maintained to protect the people’s economic interests.
