JKDM seizes 13 imported vehicles stored beyond legal limit in Klang Valley, valued at RM4.61 million including duties, with two company directors under investigation
PETALING JAYA: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) Kuala Lumpur has seized 13 imported vehicles worth approximately RM4.61 million, including unpaid duties and taxes.
The vehicles were confiscated for being stored beyond the permitted 48-month period at licensed warehouses in the Klang Valley.
Director Wan Norizan Wan Daud said the seizures were made during a series of raids from January 5 to February 6 under ‘Ops Terma’.
The operation was conducted in collaboration with JKDM’s Customs Division.
A thorough inspection found the imported vehicles had exceeded the storage limit stipulated under Section 65(2) and 65(5) of the Customs Act 1967.
“The estimated value of the seized vehicles is RM1.7 million,” Wan Norizan said.
“The estimated import duties and taxes involved amount to RM2.8 million.”
Two company directors from the involved firms have been called in to give their statements.
The case remains under investigation to trace the importing companies or agents for further action.
The case is being investigated under the Customs Act, including the offence of storing or possessing uncustomed or prohibited imports under Section 135(1)(d).
That section stipulates a fine of not less than 10 times the amount of customs duty or RM100,000, whichever is greater.
The maximum penalty is a fine not exceeding 20 times the value of the goods or RM500,000, or imprisonment of not less than six months and not more than five years, or both.
