Malaysia climbs to 54th in global corruption index, with the home minister crediting government reforms and RM15.5 billion in recovered revenue.

KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail says Malaysia’s improved position in the latest Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) demonstrates the strength of the government’s reform agenda.

He stated that integrity is the essential foundation for investor confidence, high-value economic growth, and the nation’s goal of achieving high-income status by 2027-2028.

The minister highlighted that integrated enforcement actions by several agencies had successfully recovered RM15.5 billion in national revenue last year.

“As Minister, I consistently remind enforcement agencies under the Home Ministry to remain committed to strengthening security, combating organised crime, dismantling syndicates and closing avenues for leakages,” he said in a Facebook post.

Saifuddin Nasution emphasised that every sen of national revenue must be returned to the people.

Transparency International’s CPI 2025 report showed Malaysia’s score improved to 52 points, up from 50 in 2024.

This lifted the country’s global ranking from 57th to 54th place.

Malaysia now ranks third among ASEAN nations, behind only Singapore and Brunei.
