Labour productivity per hour worked rose to RM46.3 in Q4 2025, driven by strong economic growth and gains across all major economic sectors

PUTRAJAYA: Labour productivity per hour worked in Malaysia grew by 4.9% to RM46.3 in the fourth quarter of 2025.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) released the data today, showing positive momentum in the nation’s workforce efficiency.

Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the economy expanded by 6.3% in Q4 2025. This compared to growth of 5.4% in the preceding quarter.

Total hours worked increased by 1.4% to 9.9 billion hours during the same period. Total employment also rose to 17.1 million persons, registering a year-on-year growth of 1.8%.

Labour productivity measured as value added per employment increased by 4.4%. This recorded value added per employment at RM26,765 per person.

Sectoral performance for labour productivity per hour worked rose across all sectors. Construction led with 10.3% growth, followed by manufacturing (6.4%), agriculture (5.5%), mining and quarrying (5.1%) and services (4.0%).

Within the services sector, food and beverages and accommodation led subsector growth at 7.9%. This was followed by other services (7.2%) and information and communication at 6.4%.

In terms of labour productivity per employment, construction also led with a 10.1% rise. It was followed by agriculture (5.4%), manufacturing (5.1%), services (3.7%) and mining and quarrying (1.3%).

Commenting on the full year 2025, Mohd Uzir said labour productivity per hour worked demonstrated positive momentum at 3.7%. This recorded value added per hour worked of RM44.5 per hour.

Likewise, labour productivity per employment accelerated 3.4% for the full year. The value added per employment was RM102,672 per person.
