Deputy minister Sim Tze Tzin says Malaysia’s approved investments surpass RM1 trillion over three years, driven by record approvals and strong investor confidence.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s total approved investments over the past three years have exceeded RM1 trillion. Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin announced the milestone today.

He said it follows three consecutive years of record investment approvals. This highlights Malaysia’s strong appeal and investor confidence despite global uncertainties.

“For two years, it was almost one trillion, or about RM800 billion-plus, but if you combine the three years, it has crossed RM1 trillion in total investments,” Sim stated during a press conference.

He described Malaysia as “a shining star of the region”. Sim expressed confidence the country would continue attracting quality investments.

He expects 2026 to be challenging due to global trade policy and geopolitical uncertainties. This includes ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

However, he emphasised Malaysia’s political stability and ASEAN’s preferred status will support continued investor interest. “I am cautiously optimistic in 2026,” Sim said.

He believes momentum from the past three record years will continue generating economic momentum. “Regardless of political, geopolitical and regional conflicts, Malaysia will remain a shining star of the region,” he added.

The Malaysian Investment Development Authority recently announced RM426.7 billion in approved investments for 2025. This marks the highest level ever recorded.

The 2025 figure represents an 11% increase from RM384.4 billion approved in 2024. It indicates continued growth despite a cautious global economic climate.
