A 37-year-old unemployed man denied causing grievous hurt to a masseur with a spanner in a Kuala Lumpur assault, with bail denied due to the victim’s severe injuries.

KUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed man pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court today to causing grievous hurt to a masseur using a dangerous weapon.

Adam Muhammad, 37, is accused of attacking 30-year-old Sani with a spanner at premises in Dang Wangi at 8.15 pm on March 10.

The charge, framed under Section 326 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine or whipping upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Vivien Yeap Jie Xi objected to bail, citing the victim’s severe head injuries requiring multiple stitches.

“The CCTV footage clearly shows the accused brought the spanner into the victim’s workplace before fleeing the scene,” Yeap told the court.

Adam, who was unrepresented, appealed for bail, telling the court he had recently been released from prison.

“I had previously served a one-year sentence, but during that time my wife married the man (the victim) without us being divorced,” he said.

Judge Dr Azrol Abdullah denied bail and set May 14 for mention of the case.
