Masjid TNB Bangsar sees nearly 4,000 at iftar, with Gen Z dominating turnout in lively Ramadan gathering

DURING the holy month of Ramadan, mosques become especially vibrant as Muslims gather for prayers and to break their fast together.

This year, one mosque in particular has captured the attention of netizens.

Mustapha Shobri shared on Threads that Masjid TNB Bangsar has been one of the most happening places to spend Ramadan.

“This is the liveliest mosque so far. Nearly 4,000 congregants turned up to break fast. Salute to the crew who managed everything — even the mosque smells wonderful,” he wrote.

Beyond prayers and iftar, the mosque’s organisers also introduced interactive activities to engage visitors.

In photos shared by Mustapha, congregants were invited to place bright orange stickers under their respective generation categories in response to the question: “Which generation visits the balai Islam the most?”

The results were striking. The Gen Z row was almost entirely filled with orange stickers, while the Baby Boomers group, aged between 61 and 79, recorded the lowest turnout.

One user pointed out that Gen Z likely dominated due to the mosque’s proximity to University Malaya, with many students attending throughout the week.

Aidah Ahmad congratulated Gen Z, joking that Millennials are mostly performing tarawih prayers at home as their “little kids” are still running wild.

Another netizen, Sham, praised the mosque’s organisation and warm hospitality.

“From the moment you enter the gate, there are people guiding you, helping with parking, seating and everything in between. Everything runs so smoothly! Great job to TNB and its committees and crews,” he commented.

Azlin Farida, a TNB staff member, also thanked visitors for their support and expressed pride in the mosque’s growing popularity since Ramadan began.

“Many have praised the mosque for its pleasant fragrance, delicious food, excellent hospitality and cool air-conditioning. Kudos to everyone who worked tirelessly to ensure all the preparations were carried out so carefully and smoothly,” she said.
