MCMC and police are tracing the ‘Dickie Borneo’ account for alleged Quran disrespect, warning against sharing inflammatory content.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is collaborating with social media platforms to identify the owner of the ‘Dickie Borneo’ account after visuals circulated online showing an individual behaving disrespectfully towards the Quran.

MCMC stated it is working closely with the police to ensure firm and swift action can be taken against the perpetrator.

The commission condemned the act, stating it not only insults Islam but also has the potential to trigger tension and disrupt harmony among the country’s multiracial and multireligious communities.

Initial checks found the original post had been deleted and the account, believed to be using the name Dickie Borneo, could not be traced, though further investigations will continue.

Further monitoring identified several other posts containing elements of religious insult, believed to involve the same individual in a social media group, with all related content preserved as evidence.

The commission advised the public not to reshare any content that could trigger tension and disrupt public order.

MCMC emphasised it will not compromise on any content that insults religion, incites hatred, or touches on the sensitivities of race, religion, and the royal institution.

The statement concluded by warning that firm action may be taken under existing laws.
