Apple users in Malaysia are urged to update their iOS devices immediately to patch multiple critical security vulnerabilities, including the ‘DarkSword’ exploit chain.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has issued an urgent advisory for Apple users to update their iOS devices.
This follows Apple’s release of a critical security patch addressing multiple vulnerabilities, including an exploit chain known as ‘DarkSword’.
MCMC warned that these flaws could be chained together to compromise affected iPhones and other iOS devices. Successful exploitation could grant attackers unauthorised access and enable other malicious activities.
“Users are therefore advised to update their devices to the latest iOS version to ensure they remain protected,” the commission stated.
Devices left unpatched are exposed to significant risks. These include unauthorised access to personal data and device information.
Attackers could also install spyware or other malicious software. Theft of sensitive messages, files, and data is another potential consequence.
The vulnerabilities could even enable the monitoring or surveillance of the compromised device.
To bolster security, MCMC strongly advised enabling automatic updates. Users should also avoid visiting suspicious websites and only install apps from the official Apple App Store.
It is recommended to restart devices after applying the update. Users should remain vigilant for any unusual device behaviour.
The commission reiterated the importance of practising safe digital habits. It also urged the public to rely solely on information from official sources for such advisories.
