A 64-year-old mechanic lost nearly RM250,000 in a fake high-return investment scheme promoted via WhatsApp, with police investigating the case

KUANTAN: Police have confirmed a 64-year-old mechanic lost nearly RM250,000 after falling victim to a non-existent investment scheme promising high returns in a short period via WhatsApp.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the victim initially received a message from an unknown individual, who then convinced him to make several cash deposits into provided bank accounts for the investment.

The victim subsequently made six fund transfers to three different bank accounts using his savings between 2 September and 3 November 2025.

After completing the transactions, the man received no promised returns and could no longer contact the suspect, leading him to realise he had been cheated.

The victim lodged a police report at the Temerloh District Police Headquarters yesterday.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
